Cadbury’s Spots V. Stripes hat-trick!

In case anyone missed the Cadbury’s Spots V. Stripes (or just click the image below if you’d just like to see the shots I worked on ;-))spot we did at MPC last year you might have also missed that it’s been collecting quite a few awards?

Good thing I’m here to enlighten you then. First off we (yes we, as we the people who made it all happen…it’s not like anyone would go out there and make a beast like this on their own, is it?) won the “Outstanding Animated Commercial” at the 9th annual VES Awards. For those of you who are not familiar with it it’s kind of our industry’s own “Oscar”, by our peers, for our peers.

We also got the “British Arrow Award for Best VFX” (this might actually have happened before the VES Awards, no?).

And more recently we got a “Cannes Lions Bronze Animation Award” at the Cannes Lions 2011.

Needless to say, you don’t need awards to recognize good work. But it’s always nice to get some recognition for all the hard work and passion you put in there. Also worth mentioning is that we got lots of praise all the way from the head honcho at MPC well before the awards season kicked off!

Being one of three senior animators on the project, the other two being Jorge Montiel Meurer (who also was the anim sup) and Mr. Ben Wwiiiggs (who was on the project longer than anyone could ever remember, taking the initial ideas all the way through to a very detailed animatic/previs before getting ready to dig in on the proper animation), I had a blast working on it. We all worked closely with the director Nick Gordon and MPC’s creative director Jake Mengers, slamming our heads together to get the most out of every creature and make the most out of every shot in a quite hectic edit. It also turned out Nick likes salty licorice, he even brought me some classic Swedish “Salt & Blandat” (basically “Mixed Salty Licorice Schtuff”) along with a treasure map with an X marking the spot on where to find some more, brilliant! What really made it stand out was of course the fantastic team, all across the board (well, mostly…you know who you are ;-)). I sincerely hope I’ll get another chance to work with most of these guys and girls again!
